Our hiring process is almost completely online and can be completed, start to finish, in less than one week!
1. Complete an online application by clicking Apply Now. Select the appropriate application link.
2. Once your application is submitted, our Onboarding team will review and reach out to you for an interview.
3. After the interview, we will provide instruction for you to complete necessary new hire paperwork and applicable trainings, as well as obtain any required education or certification documents. TOC will also submit a criminal background check at no cost to you.
4. You are hired! Complete orientation, receive access to our Absence Management system, and begin substituting!
You can log into an application that you had previously started by going to Talent > Apply Now and then selecting the application type that you had started in the past. Click 'Sign In' in the top right and enter in the login information that you originally created. If you need login assistance, select the 'Forgot username' or 'Forgot password' link, or contact the Teachers On Call office.
If you worked with Teachers On Call in the past, you do not need to complete a new application. Just contact our office and we will work with you to get your employment status updated.
We have an expedited hiring process just for candidates who were previously employed with our partner school districts to make the transition as seamless as possible. However, because we are a different company and must follow the appropriate privacy and hiring laws, there are some pieces that we need all prospective talent to complete - such as an application, government-issued paperwork, and possible trainings.
Yes! The greatest need for educators is throughout the traditional school year, when we do the majority of our hiring. Anyone who applies during the summer months will be ready to go when school starts up again in the fall!
We currently work with over 150 public school districts and 200 charter or private schools across Iowa, Minnesota, Washington, and Wisconsin. We have a large presence in both metropolitan areas as well as rural communities. Contact our office to see if we partner with schools in your area!
Nope! We offer both licensed and un-licensed roles, with some positions requiring a minimum of a high school diploma. We provide guidance on obtaining a state-specific substitute teaching license for anyone interested in obtaining one to become a substitute teacher. No education degree is needed!
All educators are formally employed by Teachers On Call; talent report to, communicate directly with, and are paid by TOC. However, when on assignment at a school, TOC staff are expected to take direction from the on-site district staff.
That's great! We enjoy introducing new talent to our schools. Teachers On Call employees are not under contract and are eligible for hire at any time. Please contact us when hired so we can assist with the transition process.
We pride ourselves on offering flexible opportunities, so we do not require a regular hourly or daily commitment. However, you must work at least one shift every 150 days to remain active in our system.

Pay rates vary based on district and position type. We pay weekly for the previous week's work.
